THALATTA! was a professional theatre company dedicated to the cross-cultural exchange of international art and artists. We introduced American audiences to plays from around the world. THALATTA! supported a mission of social and political justice. We trusted deeply in cultural pluralism, ethnic diversity and artistic integrity. THALATTA! was committed to the primacy of the actor on stage and his relationship with the audience. We worked and trained with a core membership of performers, designers and directors to establish common points of reference and a group vocabulary. THALATTA! was devoted to providing a ‘people’s theatre’ at affordable prices. Our primary goals were to stimulate a new generation of theatre-goers and to reinvigorate the belief in a ‘cosmopolitan metropolis’, where people of many nationalities and backgrounds could gather to share ideas and experiences.
